WAVE: Media Server terminates upon opening within virtual machine

When the OS system API cannot return a valid value in the virtual machine to generate a valid guid, the WAVE Mediaserver terminates immediately.

In your WAVE Log, you can find the log entries as below appeared:

2017-12-09 15:12:06.945 704 ERROR: Can't save guid. Run once as an administrator.


You can use the following website to generate a standard GUID.

  1. Go to generate one guid with "braces" and "hyphens" options enabled
  2. Copy the result.

For Windows

  1. Press Windows + r, type regedit.
  2. Navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\hanwha\Hanwha Media Server
  3. Find the attribute serverGuid and copy the new guid generated to this field.
  4. Close regedit.
  5. Restart the WAVE Mediaserver


For Ubuntu

  1. Change the directory to the folder - #cd /opt/hanwha/mediaserver/etc
  2. Use the text editor to edit the configuration file - #sudo nano mediaserver.conf
  3. Find the attribute, serverGuid and delete the original value.
  4. Paste the newly generated GUID, and save the file.
  5. Restart the WAVE Mediaserver - #sudo service hanwha-mediaserver restart
